Joseph Yao is a Los Angeles–based director known for uncovering the emotional, human core within brands and translating it into visually striking, cinematic work. With a background as both a cinematographer and colorist, his films are defined by a precise visual language and a tactile, immersive quality. A graduate of USC School of Cinematic Arts and a 2023 participant in the ASC Vision Program, Joseph’s work spans branded content, music videos, and narrative film. His collaborators include Alabaster and FINNEAS.

Joseph is drawn to projects that feel cinematic in scope and intention—grounded in emotion, yet elevated through bold visual choices. Whether through striking imagery or moments of visual absurdity, he creates work that feels both authentic and unexpected. His sensibility aligns naturally with dynamic sports brands, as well as the narrative-driven storytelling embraced by luxury fashion and watch houses.

At its core, his work aims to expand what commercial filmmaking can be—bringing the craft and emotional depth of cinema into the space, and creating films that resonate not just for what they sell, but for what they make people feel.
